Bill has been a professional engineer for most of his career, initially working in plant operations and later as a consultant - traveling the world to provide technical and business solutions to a variety of projects. In 2005, Bill completed a seminary degree at Regent College in Marketplace Theology. The theological training along with his work experience in the marketplace has enabled Bill to serve as a chaplain – providing pastoral care to people outside the walls of the local church.
Bill's life story is woven into the grand narrative of God's love for the world. He began his career in plant operations in the mining and forest products industries before transitioning into project management with an engineering consulting firm. It was during his time as a plant engineer supervising a team of tradespeople that Bill realized the impact of life issues on workers' productivity. He discovered that simply listening and providing spiritual care diffused their problems and helped them focus on their work. This experience led Bill to become a bi-vocational chaplain, serving workers in the marketplace while continuing his consulting work worldwide.
After earning his Masters in Marketplace Theology from Regent College in 2005, Bill has devoted more time to his chaplaincy ministry, including visiting seafarers on cargo ships at the marine terminals where he worked as an engineer. As a chaplain, Bill provides a ministry of presence, listening to people where they are and offering spiritual care and prayer for their specific needs. He worships at Vancouver Chinese Alliance Church, where he has been ordained, commissioned, and supported as a local missionary. He currently serves as president of the board of directors of Lighthouse Harbour Ministries based in North Vancouver.
Outside of his work and ministry, Bill enjoys playing ice hockey, tennis, cycling, and reading good books. He and his wife Linda have two adult married children and three grandchildren, all of whom are an important part of his life story.
